May Day or International Workers’ Day for All Classes
1st May is celebrated as May Day internationally. It is also known as International Workers' Day. The day is observed to commemorate the historic struggle of working people. The day is celebrated in most countries of the world. The day has a historical context. Currently, workers enjoy few benefits such as a minimum wage, safety laws and an eight-hour workday. All this came out of the workers' sacrifice in 1886. Since the beginning of the Industrial Revolution, people worked long shifts in factories. They had to work fourteen hours a day or more. For this reason, workers called eight-hour strikes in the 1880s. All classes of workers joined the movement and called for strikes. On May 3, 1886, police opened fire on strikers at the McCormick Harvest Machine Company in Chicago. They killed at least one striker, seriously injured five or six strikers and injured an undetermined number of strikers. Workers will continue to be exploited if they do not stand up for their rights. So the day is very important for working people all over the world.

It is recognized in all countries of the world. Due to the sacrifice of the martyred workers in 1886, the workers are enjoying all the facilities today. Today they get minimum wage. They have job security, safety laws, eight-hour working hours etc. On May 3, 1886, police opened fire on a crowd of strikers at the McCormick Harvest Machine Company in Chicago. They killed at least one striker and seriously injured five or six others and injured an unspecified number of workers. Since the beginning of the Industrial Revolution, people in factories had to work very long shifts, lasting fourteen or more hours a day. In the 1880s a new movement calling for the eight-hour day inspired both labour unions and unorganized workers. May Day is a symbol of workers around the world. On this day they renew their vows against oppression and for human rights. This day motivates the workers to unite for their demands.
